The Best Perch Fishing Tactics
Yellow Perch are nomadic, they are not spread all over the lake and don’t travel in schools like salmon. It can be tough to find them. They hang along the eastern shoreline, normally because of shade and tempurature conditions. If you start near rocks piles, you can find where they are foraging for their abundant food supply. Rocks and submerged reefs are usually situated along major drop offs, near deep water. It also helps to know the formation of the underwater rocks, and their size. Knowing rock pile locations and that they wander 10-20 yards daily, also helps.
How deep do you fish Perch?
The depth will range from 12-22 ft; look for rocks and large boulders. The key is to find the school and learn the location. Perch will feed on larval insects emerging from the mud – look for muck beds.

To find their schools, try a lot of different places; because once you do, it will be an easy catch. However, when you’re fishing, they do move. Keep moving your spot or where you fish every half hour or so – that’s usually a good way to catch them off guard.
